ROCKFALL NETTING
A geotechnical with engineering application including slope stabilization. It is also known as Rockfall Protection; using of wire mesh netting which is used to prevent rocks from falling onto the road, railways and other structures. With less mobilization for the Contractors, and allowing faster construction.

It shall consist of furnishing and installing active and passive protection systems on unstable slope in accordance with these Specifications and as shown on the Plans (DPWH BlueBook ITEM 522-A)

-
Active system prevents detachment of rock and/or soil mass and prevents excessive movement of detached rock and/or soil mass once it has occurred.

-
Passive system aims to contain and intercept falling, sliding and flowing debris.
ROCKFALL BARRIER
A Rockfall Barrier Protection is designed to prevent and control rocks and debris from falling and causing damage to people and infrastructure (highways and railways) in mountain terrains to prevents injury and site disturbance.
It made of a complex system of steel cable panels or ring net panels, steel cables connected to structural elements, posts, energy dissipater devices and anchors. It dissipates energy with system deformation, thus enabling the system to withstand energies ranging from 500 kJ to 8,000 kJ. (DPWH BLUEBOOK ITEM 522)
ADVANTAGES OF ROCKFALL NETTING AND BARRIER

-
If wire breakage occurs it does not untangle making it cost effective with low maintenance requirements.

-
Flexibility to match existing slopes and rock profiles

-
Different levels of coating protection for durability in a wide range of environments

-
There is no overlap mesh on lateral connections means fast installation and minimal material wastage

-
It does not stop the growth of natural vegetation
